United States ex rel Manieri v. Avanir, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (Akron, Lioi, J.)

Pharmaceutical kickback fraud, alleging speakers fees used as kickbacks to entice doctors, including Dr. Deepak Raheja of Cleveland, Ohio, to write prescriptions for Nuedexta, approved by the FDA for treating a rare condition, known as PBA.  CNN has investigated the company activities and written in-depth articles. Separately, Dr. Raheja was indicted by the Cleveland U.S. Attorneys Office, Department of Justice, on September 26, 2019.  On the same date, the Department of Justice announced its settlement with Avanir, amounting to over $ 108 Million, with over $ 95 million a result of the False Claims Act civil cases.
